HELP & ADVICE FOR A HAPPY HEALTHY DOG
Giving your dog a naturally balanced diet is key to them living a long and active life. But there are a number of other things you need to consider to keep them happy and healthy at every stage. So follow our helpful advice and give your dog the love, care and attention they deserve.
Water
Just like us, your dog needs to stay well hydrated to stay healthy so make sure a supply of fresh water is available at all times.
Visiting your vet
Make sure your dog is registered with a reputable veterinary surgery and take them for regular check ups to keep vaccinations up to date to help them stay in the best of health.
Dental Care
To avoid the kind of dental problems that commonly affect dogs, inspect their teeth regularly and use chews, toys, brushes and paste designed to help keep them clean.
Worming
To prevent roundworms, make sure your vet treats your dog every three to six months and treats them for tapeworms, hookworms and whipworms twice yearly.
Fleas
Because these unwelcome visitors can be difficult to get rid of once your dog has been infected, ask your vet about effective treatments for keeping them flea free.
FAQs
How do I switch my dog’s diet to Autarky?
When introducing any new diet to your dog, we highly recommend doing so gradually over a 7-10 day period to help avoid any digestive upset. Start by mixing a small amount of your chosen Autarky feed in with their current food. Then with each feed, alter the amounts of new and old food until the switch is complete.

As well as Autarky, do I need to give my dog any other foods?
No. Our complete feeds have been formulated by a canine expert to be nutritionally balanced so they give your dog exactly the right nutrients, vitamins and minerals they need to stay healthy. Adding other foods on top of this could upset this nutritional balance.
The ingredients include ‘ash’ – what exactly is this?
Ash is the term we use to describe the general mineral content of the food and is a legal requirement on all pet food labeling. If you need any further information on this, then you can contact our nutritional helpline on 01832 737 300.
Can you guarantee your feeds only contain the best ingredients?
Absolutely. And our open declaration policy means that everything that goes into our food is listed on the label. Plus, we pride ourselves on sourcing the best ingredients and only use human-grade meat to make sure your dog gets the nutritional benefit they deserve.
Do you ever add artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives?
When we say naturally balanced nutrition, we mean it and there are no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives in any of our recipes. The only thing we add is a package of natural antioxidants to keep every bag of Autarky as fresh as the day it was packaged.
Will every bag of Autarky look the same?
Because we only ever use natural raw materials, the colour of feeds may differ between batches. But to ensure that the quality remains the same we test every ingredient and every batch to check it’s just as good as it should be.
Autarky doesn’t cost as much as some other brands. Is there a reason for this?
We believe that you should be able to give your dog the balanced nutrition it needs without breaking the bank. So we offer tasty feeds at competitive prices, with no compromise on quality.
What about adding water to Autarky?
If your dog would prefer their Autarky with water or even gravy, add it by all means. Just make sure you never add boiling water as this would damage the vitamins and minerals the food contains.
How much food should I give my dog?
While you will find feeding guidelines on every bag of Autarky, don’t forget that every dog is an individual, with unique nutritional needs. So the amount you give them should be based on breed, activity, age and lifestyle. Don’t forget to check your dog’s bodyweight and condition regularly and make changes to their diet accordingly.
I want to give my dog a wheat-gluten free diet – what can you offer?
All Autarky feed feeds are wheat-gluten free!
When should I move my dog from Puppy/Junior food to an adult recipe?
It really depends on the breed and the individual dog. However our general guidelines are:
Small (5-10kg) – Between 8-10 months
Medium (10-25kg) – Between 10-12 months
Large (25-45kg) – At approximately 12 months
Very Large (45kg+) – At approximately 18 months
Which of your recipes provide joint support for my dog?
To keep joints supple at every stage of your dog’s life, take a look on our ‘Products’ to see which of our feeds contain olive extract, green-lipped mussel, glucosamine and beneficial mobility herbs.
Can I feed Mature Lite recipes to an adult dog?
Yes, of course! Basically, there is nothing in the diet which cannot be fed to an adult dog. The diet is fully balanced, however has less calorie content to prevent unwanted weight gain.
